We had Coachella’s Genset serviced two weeks ago. When we purchased the coach the air cleaner bracket for the Generator was broken and repairing it was beyond my capabilities. Cummings did a good job with the repair and really not overly priced. Two weeks after the service the generator started hard and surged when running under no load or any load. Not a terrible thing when you are home, but on a three day boondocking adventure this really did suck especially since two of the days it was cloudy so solar charging was out of the question for the house battery.
When we got back from the adventure I contacted Cummings and made an appointment for service. It is summer and the service department is really backed up so our appointment is three weeks out to have it diagnosed. This is cutting it close since we have a week long adventure to Cape Cod scheduled in four weeks!
Determined to try and fix this issue my self, YouTube became my friend (again). I found this great video on how to perhaps fix the issue without taking the carburetor off the generator.

After watching the video I headed off to my local NAPA shop and picked up Seafoam, Fuel Line, Fuel. I mixed up 4 ounces of Seafoam to a Gallon of gas, disconnected the fuel line going to the generator fuel filter (under the coach) and started the process of cleaning. Immediately the generator started and ran fine. My assumption is the carburetor wasn’t too gunked up since I operate the generator every two weeks year round under half load for one hour.
