Later in 2024 we will be heading west to visit a few key national parks in South Dakota and Wyoming. The planning stages are nearly complete and the guidelines were to not travel too many miles on any one day. After reading and advice from seasoned motorhome travelers, we are limiting our daily travels to under 300 miles and most closer to 250 miles. Harvest Hosts & Boondockers Welcome sites are the majority of our stops where we will enjoy Breweries, Wineries and Farms including a Cattle Farm ranch. State Parks in Indiana, Illinois and South Dakota are also stops and rounded out by a stay on BLM property in the Badlands.

We will run two shakedown test runs in early Spring 2024 to ensure everything works properly and we know how to use all the systems in the coach. The first shakedown run will be with two miniature dachshunds tagging along and will include only Harvest Hosts stops in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The second shakedown run will also be Harvest Hosts stops locally in Connecticut and will have our three Cats and two dogs along for the this test run.

We stumbled onto Harvest Hosts & Boondockers Welcome when we were researching the purchase of our coach. Camping in the northeastern US is not as cheap as it once was. In the early 90’s our seasonal campsite in the Catskill mountains was only $1,000 which included winter storage. Today $4,000 for a three month stay is not uncommon and and additional $2,000 for winter storage. Single night stay prices at some campgrounds in the northeast approach $100 per night and some exceed this threshold. State owned campgrounds are a cost saving alternative but many have minimal hookups and in Connecticut pets are not allowed. Harvest Hosts seems to fill the niche of being cost effective, providing a service that benefits the camper and host, most are pet friendly, and is low stress.  After purchasing our first year membership we have yet to use the service but have reservations at many sites starting in the early springtime 2024. If you are looking for an option to conventional campground camping or Boondocking off grid then perhaps Harvest Hosts & Boondockers Welcome is a fit for you.
